The Phoenix-Lazurus Save-A-Tooth Kit
Welcome to the gold standard for an avulsed tooth. Wait a minute, what does avulsed mean, you say? An avulsed tooth is one that has been “knocked out.” Check a recent article I wrote called “First Aid for a Knocked Out Tooth” to learn more details regarding this event.
Save-A-Tooth is an all-in-one product that has several features to include:
- Carrying Case
- Tamper Evident Ring to Ensure the Case is Sterile
- Leak Proof
- Multiple Tooth Slots
- TSA Compliant with 1oz of Liquid
This American Dental Association (ADA) approved product provides the best solution for a rather traumatic event.
How to use Save-A-Tooth
The most important key to remember is to stay calm and understand that time is of the essence. Once a permanent tooth has been knocked out, then carefully handle the tooth by the crown or enamel of the tooth. If the tooth is dirty, gently rinse the tooth with cold water for a maximum of ten seconds.
Place the root of the tooth between the slots in the container, and screw the lid on tightly. Call the nearest dentist or emergency room, and proceed there with urgency and caution.
The dentist will take it from there, and replant the tooth if possible.
Save-A-Tooth utilizes Hanks Balanced Salt Solution “The most important key to remember is to stay calm and understand that time is of the essence.”that is designed to stimulate cell growth on the root. That is why it is extremely important not to scrape the root of the tooth once it has been knocked out.
Save-A-Tooth suggests that a tooth can be stored up to 24 hours in the container; however, research shows that the tooth will have a much higher survival rate if it is replanted within the first 1.5 hours from the time of avulsion.
My Overall Opinion of Save-A-Tooth
This product is definitely on the list of products that I feel are essential in any nurse’s office, coach’s bag, or mother’s purse. Although the claims of the product are a little misleading, it still gets a strong recommendation from this pediatric dentist.
I hope to see this product being recommended more since it could be the difference in saving a child’s self-esteem and smile. It should be carried around like an Epipen, and make sure to replace as needed upon expiration.
